These are the songs that get passed around a fire, a kitchen, or a long drive: the American folk songs, cowboy songs, work songs and old ballads that everybody half knows. The chords sit over the words, the verses are the traditional ones from the earliest printed sources, and every chart is checked against how the song is normally played. All of them are in the public domain, so you can print them, hand them out, and sing them anywhere.

Each song opens in an easy guitar key with open chords. If that key is too high or too low for the people singing, tap another key at the top of the chart and the whole song is rewritten, with capo options for keeping the easy shapes.
